Also, my husband is german and we met while I was living in germany…he was a med student there and resident work etc is much more regulated. An IM residency there, for example is 6 years instead of 3 (with better pay than here, of course). We were not prepared for the shock of residency in the US..and we were already weary from making 3 major moves in just a few years time…from med school to residency in germany to residency in the UK to PA. We were also struggling with the issue of having smaller children than you have and having so little money. Everyone’s experience is different, you know. 😉
