I have a little perspective on both of your career choices. I am an ob/gyn and my husband is a clinical psychologist. He did his trsining while I was in residency. We had our first child during my third year of residency and the second in my first year in practice. If you are considering having children, the psych road would be much more accomodating than almost any field in medicine. I barely saw my son for his first year. My husband makes his own schedule and can take time off to take the kids to the pediatrician(I’ve gotten to take my daughter twice) or to the park etc… Also keep in mind call schedule, It is very hard to not see your children for 36 hours at a time if you are stuck at the hospital.(There are no work hour restrictions once you are out of residency.) If you feel that you must go into medicine find something that relies on insurance reimbursment as little as possible, has as little call as possible, and has some realistic ability to work part time. Good luck!
