Yes as we gain experience and get older we make more well-informed decisions and I think adcoms can understand that. Look at me, Im a nurse and I know I will be asked that question. Im prepared to answer it too.

Im glad your friend got in med school. I like success stories.

Speaking of Liberal Arts, Im obtaining a Liberal Studies degree. There are 2 areas of study to pick from (aside from having to take lots of classes from different disciplines which comprise the core classes). One of my areas is nursing since I have an associate’s degree, the other is biological science which compose my prereqs and a bit more of the sciences. This allowed me not to start from scratch and get a degree culminating my prereqs. The worst that can happen is that I dont get in to med school, and I will still be a nurse with a bachelor’s degree (but not in nursing!) :p There is hardly a pay difference b/w an associate’s nurse and a bachelor’s nurse. Maybe like 50 cents or less an hour. At my facility, if you are a nurse and you have any bachelor’s degree, you still get paid your premium. It would suck though to not get in and spend all this money in the end not to have really gotten ahead financially and in goals. Oh well. Im risky.
