A friend of mine whose husband is a third year med student who wants to become an ortho surgeon just wrote me an email: “I was wondering if you could tell me the titles of some of the books you read on living with a surgeon, being a doctor’s wife…..etc. I searched on amazon for about 5 minutes and then gave up…I have not spent any time with him and it is really starting to get to me. This weekend he is on call which makes it worse.”

Anyone have any advice for her? Know of any helpful books? Any spouseofMD.com forums??

I can’t think of any books off hand, but I know they’re out there.

Tell her to come visit at http://www.medicalspouse.org

http://www.studentdoctor.net has a forum for spouses/partners of medical students. If you go to forums, scroll down and it is near the bottom of the page. That might be of some use to her, hopefully! 🙂

The medical school I went to had a really great spouses group. Not only did they support each-other and have fun activities, but they were huge fund-raisers/volunteers and did a lot of good in the community.
Your friend could check with their school and see if something like this is available (or start one herself).
