    OK, I finally broke down and got one — a Canon A60. In four days I’ve taken more pictures of Liesl than I did in 3 months with the (wonderful, simple, manual) SLR.

    Do you have one of these contraptions? If so, which model did you buy and why? If you have a DV recorder, are you glad you spent the money?

    I got the Canon because it’s a good name in photography, I read good reviews from real photographers who like their wonderful manual SLRs,
    and the software works with my ancient OS. It still doesn’t give the quality of real film, particularly in b/w, but for decent snapshots it’s lovely. I like the control over shutter speed, aperture, and ISO approximations. And the optical zoom’s decent. So far it looks like most of the other stuff is adjustable in Photoshop, so not all that important to me in the camera.
