I was just wondering how all of you that were married (and those of you planning on this committment at some point…) handled your finances. My husband and I have always shared our accounts (checking, savings and investments), but I get the sense from some of the other posts that others have chosen to do things differently. I’m just curious how (and why) do you do your finances the way you do…

We share everything, too. It always seemed artificial to separate finances. I had med school friends who had his and her money – like the debts were hers and the high salary was his. I didn’t get the point of sharing life if one weren’t going to share money. We had small separate savings accounts for a while (to do things like give each other presents, buy frivolous stuff for ourselves) but got rid of those a couple of years ago. We just respect our mutual money when deciding if something is worth buying.
