For the atheists/agnostics

I’m not sure what forum this thread falls under, so I’m putting it here. Feel free to move it.

There was a thread awhile back about athiests and agnostics in medicine, and I’m curious:

What do you tell your children when someone dies, or when people who are strongly religious talk about their faith?

Do you celebrate holidays such as Christmas as family holidays, and how do you separate this from the popular christian culture?

I will tell Liesl some of what I was told (“nobody knows”), and when she gets older, I’ll tell her what I believe (“we cease to exist”). As for what other people believe, at first we’ll have literal truth (“She believes the world happened this way,” and if she says “but it didn’t, right, it happened our way,” we’ll say “Nobody knows for sure.”) and as she gets older we’ll introduce ideas of common mores, fundamentalism, the value and dangers of religion, spirituality, etc.
