HIPPA and volunteer observation

Hi everyone,

I need some advice/help. I am writing a paper for my medical anthro class and am required to observe some type of medical event and possibly interview patients/providers. I am having trouble getting access due to the new HIPPA regulations. Everyone is saying that this would have been no problem before, but now it is not possible. I do not know what to do. Please help!

Trish, Yep, HIPPA is a BIG pain in the rear. I would think as long as you speak to a health care provider and ask her or him to ask one of their patients if they wouldnt mind being interviewed, no one should be violating the regulations. It is doable.
