IVF and Residency

Hello,

Does anyone have experience going through IVF during residency? If so, could you share it? I am a second year pathology resident. We do not have the most difficult schedule, and, though busy, I am not struggling. Delaying does not seem to be a good option since I am getting close to 35 and I doubt fellowship would be easier. My program is very understanding and flexible, but I am afraid that the hormones will make it difficult for me to function. Any advice would be appreciated.

I delayed starting surgical internship to try last 2 cycles of IVF (successful). I functioned fine on hormones at work both through IVF and through pregnancy (doubt IVF hormones any worse than pregnancy hormones). The hardest part is that you have to drop everything for egg retrievals which happen unpredictably with only a few days notice and require anesthesia so no work after.

Good luck! Don’t delay, all only gets harder with age.
