Rural FP

Hi all, I’m just premed right now (although hopefully next year, I’ll be M1) and I’m wondering if anyone does Rural FP? I’d really like to get into this, but I have a long list of questions, so here goes.

Do you work for yourself or for a Hospital/HMO?

Was it a huge transition coming from a big city training area (I’m in Boston now) moving out to the country?

What specific challenges do you face that wouldn’t neccessarily come up in a regular FP?

How many partners do you have, and what size community do you serve?

Do you do minor surgeries or OB or do you send them out?

Anything else that I don’t know that I don’t know? PM me if you don’t feel like answering a long list of questions on a thread. Thanks!!!

PS–I know I shouldn’t ask if that’s what I really want to do, but how does salary compare with staying in a city?

I’m in peds, but a number of my friends from med school did FP. Those who wanted to do something more rural actually did residencies in rural areas. Even those who wanted to go to cities did more rural residencies as they had more freedom to practice in residency than in the university hospitals.
