seeking a surgeon mentor

I’m a second year medical student and am strongly considering a surgical career (plastics, ortho, ???). Presently single, but plan to marry one day and have children. I’ll be 31 when I graduate. Seeking a mentor who might have some insights on this path.

Nancy, I received your message but could not email you back since you are not accepting private messages. I would be happy to start a dialogue with you. First thing is that you have to love surgery. If you do not love surgery then all the work, sacrifice and turmoil are for naught. Each specialty has its pros and cons and there are many specialties in surgery. Some lend themselves for families better than others. I would be happy to share my ups and downs with you. Let me know where to start. Michele
